Two great friends invited me to go and visit them in the beautiful Swiss Alps last August, and it was sublime. Not only did they spoil me every second of my stay by their kindness and care (did I already say that they are amazing?), I also discovered a part of the Alps I did not know, the Oberland.
I have always loved the mountains. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in the French Alps. So as I sat in the little regional train climbing the mountain, looking out of the window, my heart was rejoicing and I was back being a little girl. I felt so excited!
And I was not disappointed, just look at that:
Magical, right? And aside from my fun hostesses, I also had the pleasure to share my holidays with this big black bundle of joy, Jessie a.k.a Binou.
The dream continued when after a day in the mountain, we enjoyed more swimming in this pool with a view.
The feelings of space, of fresh air, of purity and simplicity were complete and constant. Any worry just lifted.
Also, the wooden chalets, whether large or minimalistic (as in ‘tree house’!), added to the charm of this small town and to the walks in the mountain. Fairy tales came to mind easily.
I will spare you the menu and description of the food, even though it was delicious, to focus on the view from the terrace where we had lunch one day. That’s when I wished I could be an eagle and spend hours up there…
Even at night, the sight in some of the places we went to was a surprise. Here, above magnificent flower arrangements, the painted ceiling was a real work of art at the Alpina Hotel.
Other nice works were spread around town in various the galleries. Below are two samples from the Tournemine Gallery. I also recommend the work of Hom Le Xuan (I was so busy chatting with him, I didn’t take any picture. Oops!)
This break was only for 4 days and it went too fast. Yet, it was sufficient to recharge all my batteries and breathe anew.
I wish to thank my dear friends and hostesses for welcoming me so warmly in their home and in their life. I loved Oberland, as this smile shows.
Thank you for reading,
Yours, Virginie
