Call me cynical, but when I read ‘Ten maps that tell you everything you need to know about global politics‘, then note that the book is less than 300 pages, I have doubts. Could such book do more than frustratingly brush key subjects?
Finishing the book, I was indeed hungry for more, but not because Tim Marshall‘s work was lacking, to the contrary! His book is excellent and gives a new or better understanding of geography’s role in the politics and economics of past and present worldwide, with fascinating projections for the future.
The stakes at play are baffling: if the USA is still a dominant player, China comes out with the strongest position on the board. It has peons everywhere, economically and politically – also developing militarily. As to the Arctic rising importance and the claims of Russia on what they have now rebranded ‘The Russian sea’, we have new problems on the horizons.
This book is a light switch for more clarity on the background of today’s global issues. It is concise yet precise and thorough, addressing the following regions of the world:
Knowledge is valuable, and this book is one to learn from. Please, go and get Prisoners of Geography, by Tim Marshall!
