Learning is a never-ending story as knowledge touches a multitude of subjects, from anthropology to philosophy, from mathematics to past and present religions, from geography to the Milky Way. The choice is almost unbearable to face.
Even more so as knowledge is not just knowing facts and dates, but discovering a multitude of opinions, analysis, mentalities, and other piece of information. Whether it is another experience, a distinct interpretation or a different point of view, it is also important – even though sometimes difficult – to keep an open-mind and not to judge others for learning something different from us (i.e. having other interests), for choosing a different interpretation of the same information (i.e. having another opinion), or for not learning the same way (i.e. University or School of Life).
Yes, learning is also learning from others and not just from books or online; learning what others think and experience and make your own opinion about it; choosing which to agree or disagree on. And in the process, we learn about ourselves.
Anyway, as usual I divert the objective of this post, which is to share with you some little gems as sources of knowledge. I enjoy losing myself in their libraries of knowledge whenever I have a chance. Sadly it is not often enough or long enough to my taste, though every little help! I have a long list of websites bookmarked, but it would overwhelm this post, so I have selected just these six favorites :
In my family, the elders always say they do not wish to die because there are still learning every day. My grand-mother is a perfect example: at 97, she still reads her newspaper daily from front to back and devours all sort of books. She is a constant source of wonder at the sharpness of her mind. My mother is on the same path: talking with her I always learn something new something she might have read or heard long ago, or just the day before. My hope is to age like them, continuing to learn daily, keeping my brain as curious and sharp as they do. And as an added bonus, if I also age naturally beautiful like my mother and grand-mother, I will be very fortunate indeed!
May you learn something every day for many years to come!
Yours,
Virginie
